Who we are. UrBudget, the desktop app, the website at urbudget.app and the Sync service, is provided by [Legal name] (“UrBudget”, “we”, “us”). Contact: support@urbudget.app.
1. Agreeing to these terms
By downloading or using the UrBudget app, creating an account, buying a license or subscribing to Sync, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use UrBudget. If you use UrBudget on behalf of an organization, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for it.
2. The free trial
You can use every feature of the app free for 30 days, starting the first time you open it. No account or payment details are needed. When the trial ends, the app opens read-only unless you have a license: you can still open, view and export your budgets, but not change them.
3. Your license
When you buy a license, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license, for life, to install and use UrBudget on the computers you own or control, for your own budgeting. The license includes the future updates we release for UrBudget.
“For life” means your license doesn't expire and has no recurring fee. After it's activated, the app checks the license on your computer without needing our servers, and it may check its status occasionally when you're online so that refunded licenses stop working.
You may not:
- share your license key publicly or with other people, or sell, rent or sublicense it;
- get around the trial or license checks, or help others do so;
- copy, modify or redistribute the app, or reverse engineer it, except where the law allows this despite these terms.
We may deactivate a license that was refunded, charged back, bought fraudulently or shared in breach of these terms. The app and all rights in it remain ours; you get the rights described here.
4. Sync subscription
Sync is an optional subscription that keeps your budgets the same on all your computers. It needs a free UrBudget account.
- Billing. Sync costs $2 a month (plus any applicable tax), billed in advance through Polar. It renews automatically each month until you cancel.
- Canceling. You can cancel at any time from your account page (Manage subscription). Sync keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for and then stops. We don't refund partial months, except as described in our refund policy or where the law requires.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, Sync keeps working for a short time while Polar retries; if payment can't be collected, the subscription ends.
- Your passphrase. Your budgets are encrypted on your devices with your sync passphrase. We never receive it and can't recover it. If you lose it, we can't decrypt your synced data; you can reset the cloud copy and upload your budgets again from your devices.
- Limits. Each synced budget can be up to 50 MB. We may set other reasonable limits to keep the service working for everyone.
- Price changes. If we change the price, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
Sync is a convenience, not a backup service. The app keeps your budgets on your computers, and we recommend keeping your own backups or exports too.
5. Your account
Use an email address you control, and keep access to it secure, because sign-in codes are sent there. An account is for one person. You're responsible for what happens in your account. You can delete it at any time from your account page.
6. Payments
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Polar Software, Inc. (“Polar”), the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Polar handles payment, sales tax and VAT, receipts, and refunds.
Polar's buyer terms apply to your purchase. Prices are shown at checkout, where Polar adds any sales tax or VAT that applies where you live.
7. Refunds
Licenses and the first month of Sync come with a 14-day money-back guarantee. The details are in our refund policy.
8. Acceptable use
Please don't:
- use UrBudget or our servers for anything unlawful;
- try to access other people's accounts or data, or probe, disrupt or overload our servers;
- use automated means to create accounts, request sign-in codes or call our API in ways the app and website don't;
- upload anything other than your own encrypted budgets to Sync, or resell access to it.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules. A license you paid for keeps working unless it was obtained or used in breach of section 3.
9. Your data
Your budgets are yours. We claim no rights to them. Without Sync, they never leave your computer; with Sync, we store only encrypted copies we can't read, and only to provide the service. Our privacy policy explains what we do collect.
10. Other services
Some optional features work with services run by other companies, such as importing from YNAB or using the assistant with OpenAI or Anthropic. Your use of those services is governed by their terms, and we aren't responsible for them. UrBudget isn't affiliated with or endorsed by YNAB, OpenAI or Anthropic; their names are trademarks of their owners.
11. Not financial advice
UrBudget is a tool for organizing your own money. Its reports, forecasts, loan calculations, target suggestions and the assistant's proposals are estimates based on the data you enter, and they may be incomplete or wrong. Nothing in UrBudget is financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Check important figures against your statements, and talk to a qualified professional before making significant financial decisions. You decide what to apply; the assistant only proposes changes.
12. Warranty disclaimer
We work hard to make UrBudget reliable, and the app is careful with your data. Even so, to the extent the law allows, UrBudget and Sync are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that the app or Sync will be uninterrupted or error-free.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data or financial decisions made using UrBudget. Our total liability for any claim relating to UrBudget is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.
14. Changes
We may update the app, change or discontinue features, and update these terms. If we change these terms significantly, we'll update the date above and, if you have an account, tell you by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use UrBudget after that means you accept the new terms. Changes never take away a license you've already bought.
15. Ending this agreement
You can stop using UrBudget at any time and delete your account from the account page. We may end your access to the account and Sync if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Sections 3 (as to restrictions), 9 and 11 to 16 continue to apply after this agreement ends.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country where the operator named above is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring claims in your local courts.
